Report of the Thirty-Fourth session of the Commission / Twenty-Fifth meeting of the Conference of Ministers / Ninth Session of the conference of African Ministers of finance

The present session had a threefold objective, namely: to update one another on developments in the various African countries over the recent period; consider and deliberate upon the major programs and initiatives launched during the past few months in order to exchange views; and harmonize the positions of the various African countries to ensure that Africa spoke with one voice. Referring to the various initiatives and programs adopted during the past two decades by African countries, the United Nations and the international community, the Minister recalled that since the launching of the Lagos Plan of Action in 1980,the results of the various programs had fallen short of the expectations of the governments and peoples of the region. Consequently, he stressed that one of the key objectives of the present meeting was to embark on a systematic evaluation of all the programs with a view to drawing lessons from experience so as to better respond to the priorities of member States and to the increasingly urgent needs of African peoples.
