Report on the implementation of the programme for the first phase of the decade : United Nations Transport and Communications Decade in Africa (1978 - 1988)
The Conference at Addis Ababa reiterated the appeal made by the Secretary General of the United Nations for the organization of a global Pledging Conference for the benefit of the Decade and it was for this purpose that ECA, after the Conference, undertook a series of measures which appeared necessary and useful for the preparation of the desired conference. During its first meeting from 9 to 12 May 1979 at Addis Ababa, the Conference of Ministers of Transport, Communications and Planning agreed on the followings - The global strategy to follow for the implementation of the Transport and Communications Decade in Africa (1978-198C), including the main priorities to be observed; - A plan of action for the implementation of the first phase (I98O-I983) amounting to $US 9 billion
