Report of the second African road safety congress

The Second African Road Safety Congress was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 16 to 20 October 1989. The Congress was jointly organized by the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. The Congress has opened by Commander Zewdu G.Moariam of the Ethiopian Road Transport Authority. Who on behalf of the minister of Transport and Communications of the Socialist Republic of Ethiopia, extended a hearty welcome to participants. He stated that in Ethiopia 93 per cent of internal freight and 93 per cent of passenger movements were carried out by road transport. Compared to other modes accident risk was highest for road, transport.
