[EN]: The exposure of the Roman remains of Italica, after excavation, has resulted in colonization and deterioration by pioneering species of lichens, bryophytes, and alliedd vascular plants. Bryophytes have extensively invaded the mosaics, especially those protected from direct sunlight, heavily damaging the mortars, and breaking off the cohesion with the tesserae. Mistakenly, for mosaic maintenance, the bryophytes are removed by brushing, which is considerad as one of the best ways of dispersion of these organisms onto the mosaics, because mosses can reproduce vegetatively from parent plant fragments.
