[EN] A biographical profile is presented for Ramón de Izaguirre Porset, author in 1922 with Wolfgang Ostwald of a general theory for the adsorption from solution phenomenon. The biographic data prior to formulation of the theory constitute one more proof for the important role of the Board for Extension of Studies and Scientific Researches (JAE) as an organization promoting Spanish scientific research in the first bol. cien. nat. y tecnología R.I.d.e.a., n.º 54 (2019) u decades of the 20th Century. These data also show that, surprisingly, none of the two authors of the theory had a previous background in the field of adsorption. After presenting a concise overview of the theory, it is shown that the research activity of Ramón de Izaguirre was truncated as he moved to work in a nitrogenated fertilizer factory in La Felguera (Asturias). Later on, he would compatibilize it with teaching and management activities at the University of Oviedo. Finally, the repercussions of the Ostwald-De Izaguirre theory are briefly examined eother as a whole or though a classification of adsorption isotherms and an equation that describes the adsorption by solids of mixtures of miscible liquids. The latter is the result that has the greatest degree of survival, being used still nowadays.
