In its type locality in Europe, cercariae of Echinostoma revolutum have penetration and paraoesophageal gland cells which open on the body surface. Penetration glands open with four outlets situated on the ventral surface of the dorsal lip of the oral sucker. Paraoesophageal glands terminate in up to sixteen outlets in the body surface of the pharyngeal region. All previous descriptions of the gland cells of E. revolutum, including those of B e a v e r (1937), Kosupko (1972), Moravec et al (1974), Yamaguti (1975) and N a si n c o v á (1986), are incorrect because some are incomplete whereas some are presented with the name of E. revolutum gland cells belonging to cercariae of another species.
