Flores, Fernando Rispail, Nicolas Prats, Elena Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (España) Trabajo presentado en el IV Symposium on Physiology and Breeding of Cereals, celebrado en Pamplona el 16 y 17 de diciembre de 2021. Oat, A. sativa L. is an important crop world-wide. Its cultivated area in the Mediterranean rim steadily increased during the last 20 years due to its good adaptation to a wide range of soils. Nevertheless, under Mediterranean cultivation conditions, oats have to face high temperatures and drought that reduce yield as compared with northern regions. Therefore, oat crop needs to be improved for adaptation to Mediterranean environments. In this work, we investigated the influence of climatic and edaphic variables on a collection of 709 Mediterranean landraces and cultivars growing under Mediterranean conditions. We performed genotype-environment interactions analysis using heritability-adjusted genotype plus genotype-environment biplot analyses to determine best performing accessions. Further, their local adaptation to different environmental variables and the partial contribution of climate and edaphic characteristics to the different agronomic traits was determined through canonical correspondence, redundancy analysis and variation partitioning. Here, we observed that most of the agronomic traits showed significant variation partitioning with the largest fraction explained by climate variables, being yield and heading date the agronomic factors more influenced by climate factors, whereas the variation explained by soil variables was relatively constant for all agronomic traits. Further, northern bred elite cultivars were not among the best performing accessions with several landraces outyielding these. The analysis performed allow an overall knowledge of the oat collection performance within the Mediterranean rim which will ease the improvement of the oat crop for adaptation of Mediterranean agroclimatic conditions in the current scenario of climate change and to promote a sustainable production in this area.
