Rice fields in Con Cuong, Viet Nam
High dependence on rainfed rice field is one of the significant drivers of food insecurity in Asia Pacific, as climatic and seasonal shocks are more frequent due to climate change. Rainfed and irrigated rice fields were mapped to assess the Nature Based Solutions indicators and food security in Viet Nam. Rice field data was obtained by training a machine learning model and classifying 2021 satellite imageries (Planet, Sentinel 1 & 2), and the results were obtained at 5m spatial resolution. Further, the rice field were separated into irrigated and rainfed through the vegetation index.
