WECAFC - Report of the third session of the Scientific Advisory Group. Bridgetown, Barbados, 25-27 April 2005

This document is the final version of the report of the third session of the Scientific Advisory Group (SAG) of the Western Central Atlantic Fishery (WECAFC), held in Bridgetown, Barbados, from 25 to 27 April 2005. Major topics discussed during the session included the status and trends of fisheries and aquaculture in the WECAFC region, the main decisions of the eleventh session of the Commission, which included the recommendation for the strengthening of the Commission. In discussing the main a genda item, the strengthening of WECAFC, the SAG suggested a process for the strengthening of the Commission, which included a linkage with the PDF-B stage of the Caribbean Large Marine Ecosystem (CLME) project being developed by IOCARIBE that has similar goals to those of WECAFC on living marine resources. The SAG also suggested that the process for strengthening the Commission should also include the pursuing of the goal of self-sustainability for the working groups of WECAFC. The list of matt ers for the attention of the Commission is included in Appendix D.
