Status and prospects for brackish and sea water cage culture of finfish in Yugoslavia with special emphasis on salmonid species

Overall, the author would caution the Rudjer Boskovic staff against being too “scientific”. Fish farming is still largely an art, not a science, and it is important they keep in mind that the primary goal is fish production rather than scientific research. With this proviso, however, the author recommends that the proposal to develop brackish/seawater cage farming of salmonids in Yugoslavia is sound and deserves support. It will be necessary to make amendments to details of the project document, partly in the light of the above comments and partly because time has passed and the situation has changed since the proposal was written. If possible, however, the author would recommend at least part of the support be given as soon as possible, rather than being further delayed pending revision of the project document.
