Fishery statistical system in Sri Lanka
The report contains an evaluation of the working of the statistical system currently in use in Sri Lanka for the estimation of marine fish landings. The evaluation covers both technical aspects of the sample survey design as well as its working in the field. On recommends a single uniform design along with method of estimation for all sectors of marine fisheries. On field operations the report suggests that fully trained full-time field staff exclusively for the purpose of statistics collection with adequate supervision is highly preferable for successful operation of any survey system. The report also provides an interim scheme for the estimation of inland fish production.
