Strengthening sustainable use of biological diversity through improved information on animal genetic resources - GCP/GLO/648/GER

The Domestic Animal Diversity Information System, hosted by FAO, is a communication and information tool supporting the development of strategies for the management of animal genetic resources. It provides the user with a searchable, dynamic, multilingual database of breed-related information and images, management tools, a library of references, links and contacts of regional and national coordinators for the management of animal genetic resources. Demand for the Domestic Animal Diversity Information System has increased in recent years, as it is the only global system that contains the global data relevant for certain indicators under the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Given that the original design of the so-called “DAD-IS:3” and the underlying technology were outdated, there was a need to restructure the user interface without affecting its database structure or that of the European Farm Animal Biodiversity Information System’s European node.
