Fisheries training requirements for the Sudan

This report is the result of a consultancy carried out in October 1981, at the request of the Sudanese Government, for which the terms of reference were: to assist and advise in the development of a training programme for inland and marine fisheries and to prepare a proposal for staffing and equipping the Fisheries Training Institute in Khartoum. An analysis is made of the present and potential production of the Sudanese fisheries sector, the nature of which is briefly described. A review is mad e of the existing fisheries administration, its staffing and its development activities. Manpower needs are discussed in the light of the Government's development strategy and recommendations made regarding future staffing requirements. An examination is made of the present situation of the Training Institute and its current training programme. Recommendations are made which, if implemented, would mean the replacement of the existing three-year course by short-term specialized courses.
