Remote sensing and GIS for mapping land cover and land-use in the region of Biskra -Algeria

he Algerian steppes cover 20 million hectares; they are characterized by a great ecological diversity. This Land has been declining for many years and faces a process of continuous degradation of natural resources (soil, water, vegetation...). The reasons for this phenomenon appear due to the combined effects of a human and animal pressure increasing and of a worsening dryness on the ecosystems. The aim of this study is to produce land use and cover map for the studied area to observe the soil occupation of the steppes using Land sat image with integration by GIS. Finding data is useful for decision maker to investigate and monitoring the different uses of land in the steppes of Biskra. Supervised classification methodology has been employed using maximum likelihood technique in ENVI 5.3 Software. The image of the study area was categorized into different classes (vegetation, agriculture, urban area, palm…)
