A comparative study on the behaviour of lignocellulosic products at sorption

This poster proposed to contribute to the studies on the sorption behaviour of wood and some lignocellulosic materials involved in the wood drying, through the basic principles interlining the complicated phenomenon of water sorption in wood. So, some pertinent wood sorption models were tested here on experimental data of tropical woods, taking into account the sorption phenomenon of the primary and secondary water molecules as well as the capillary condensation. A reference methodology, the CIRAD test bed and a reference product : a sensitive element of wood equilibrium moisture content sensor used in dried control ; and two tropical wood species issued from natural forest and plantation. Many theoretical sorption models are developed on the basis of water attraction by sorption sites. Among these ones applied to wood sorption, six sorption models were selected to be tested and adjusted to the precedent experimental data : the Dent, the Le and the Ly, the Hailwood and Horrobin, the Zuritz, Singh, Moini and Henderson, the Hunter and the Fractal BT models. Results are discussed both through the interpretation of the sorption phenomenon and through applying on wood drying control.
