Integrated chemical control strategies against black leaf streak diseases (BLSD) of bananas and plantains. Measures proposed for a more environmentally-friendly production

Intensive monocropping of dessert bananas for a more environmentally-f riendly production requires a revision of banana production methods. This revision necessitates the initial setting-up of sustainable farming systems with less polluant crop management sequences followed by a gradual transition to integrated production. Integrated prodution is a very exacting concept which requires the implementation of rationalised chemical control strategies, cultural control methods and a varietal diversification strategy
