Fieldbook of grassland species
A greater knowledge of tropical legumes and grasses is an important aspect in the utilization of the tropical and subtropical pasture as the basis for higher yield in animal production. Tropical forage legumes and grasses is an introductory fieldbook which identifies 91 of the more common species with particular reference to feed value. Each of the species is illustrated with simple line drawings which emphasize those features that help identification. The origin and distribution of the species is indicated together with information regarding soil requirements, latitudinal limits and altitude range, and temperature and rainfall parameters. General cultural information, methods of use and grazing management techniques are given as well as yield and feed values and practical feeding notes. Supplementary tables of nutritive value and digestibility are set out at the end of the book and there are appendices on leguminous shrubs and trees that have exceptional promise as animal feeds. A general index of legumes and grasses is provided in Latin, English, Spanish and Portuguese. Tropical forage legumes and grasses by Siegfried Legel 1990 335pp ISBN 3 331 00453 7 Deutscher Landwirtschaftsverlag Rheinhardtstr. 14, 1040 Berlin GERMANY
