Distance learning for Agritex

The Department of Agricultural Technical and Extension Services (Agritex), Zimbabwe, has introduced an innovative staff training project. Although Agritex staff have wide gad experience, it is considered important that their expertise in the economic and social aspects of planning and implementing policies and projects should be developed further. The Department therefore plans to use the postgraduate distance learning External Programme of Wye College, University of London for upgrading and developing its agricultural extension staff. Agritex will be recruiting on the External Programme up to 15 employees a year for the next five years from 1992. The employees concerned will be registered for either the postgraduate Diploma or the MSc in Agricultural Development for External Students and will remain in their posts while studying part time. This is a well-proven, cost-effective training programme which will help Agritex meet the challenges of agricultural development in Zimbabwe. It will also provide career development opportunities for the selected staff as they acquire new technical knowledge and skills External Programme Wye College University of London Ashford, Kent TN25 5AH UK
