El presente estudio examina el desempeño de evaluaciones de certificación en América Latina, mediante la identificación de las situaciones problemáticas y debilidades que conllevan al establecimiento de condiciones durante el proceso de certificación. De 545 condiciones analizadas, se encontró que el 71% se debían exclusivamente a debilidades en el manejo de las operaciones 18% eran el resultado de debilidades en el manejo, en combinación con otras debilidades y 11% eran el resultado de debilidades ajenas al manejo de la operación (capacidades de los evaluadores, estándares utilizados y factores externos a la operación forestal).Con base en los hallazgos de este estudio preliminar, se hacen recomendaciones para una mejor aplicación de los estándares de certificación de manejo forestal, con referencia específica al sistema del FSC. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the performance of FSC certification assessments in Latin America by identifying the sources of weaknesses leading to corrective action requests. Of the 545 corrective action requests analyzed, it was found that 71% were exclusively the result of weaknesses in the management of the forest operation, 18% were a result of weaknesses in the management of the operation in combination with other weaknesses, and 11% were a result of weaknesses other than the management of the forest operation (weaknesses related to the capacities of the certification assessors, to the certification standard, and/or to factors external to the forest operation).
