Se determinó la flora presente en el bosque ribereño de la microcuenca del río Gaira, en la Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, desde la desembocadura en el mar Caribe hasta los 2200 m de altitud. Esta microcuenca es de particular relevancia porque es fuente abastecedora de agua para la ciudad de Santa Marta. Para la determinación se establecieron parcelas de 0,1 ha a lo largo de transectos altitudinales en la parte baja, media y alta de la cuenca. Se registraron 206 especies de 150 géneros pertenecientes a 66 familias. La familia Leguminosae presentó el mayor número de especies, seguida de Moraceae y Rubiaceae. La parte baja de la cuenca fue la de mayor diversidad (102 especies, 84 géneros y 41 familias). Los resultados sugieren que la composición florística de cada sector demarca notablemente los biomas presentes en la cuenca.. The existing flora in the riparian forest of Gaira river, Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, was determined. This study covered an altitudinal gradient from the river’s mouth in the Caribbean Sea to 2200 m of altitude. This watershed is particularly important because it supplies water to Santa Marta city. Plots of 0.1 ha were established in the lower, middle and upper watershed. 206 species, 150 genera and 66 families were determined. Leguminosae was the family with the greatest number of spe cies, followed by Rubiaceae and Moraceae. The lower basin was the most diverse (102 species, 84 genera and 41 families).
