Sc) -- CATIE, Turrialba (Costa Rica), 1997 Se estudiaron varios aspectos bioecológicos del complejo B. tabaci-ToYMV-CR, importantes en la epidemiología de la enfermedad del mosaico amarillo del tomate, en campos de agricultores. Se determinaron los movimientos del insecto hacia la parcela y dentro de ésta, así como la distribución espacial de la enfermedad. Mediante un programa para microcomputadoras (EPIDEMIC) se determinó la influencia de la distancia y el número de plantas infectadas alrededor de una planta sana, sobre la probabilidad de una futura infección, así como el efecto del ángulo en que una planta sana se ubica con respecto a otra infectada. Además, se realizó una recolección de malezas asociadas con plantaciones de tomate y plantas cultivadas hospedantes de B. tabaci, para determinar si el ToYMV-CR tiene hospedantes alternos en la zona de Guayabo de Turrialba dicha recolección abarcó 21 campos y se realizó durante 10 meses, con una frecuencia quincenal. Los resultados indican que los movimientos de B. tabaci son continuos durante el día, y son de corta distancia dentro de la parcela. No se encontraron hospedantes alternos (silvestres o cultivados) para el ToYMV-CR.
