Темп роста как стабилизирующий фактор популяции балтийского шпрота

Using the data on the sprat from commercial catches taken in the North-Eastern Baltic, variations in the growth rate of Baltic sprat were analyzed for the years 1956-1985. The growth rate should be considered to be a biological factor which depends upon the population density through the food availability. The density-defined variations in the growth rate ensure the population abundance and biomass stabilization. Other things being equal, variations in the growth rate stabilize to a certain extent the size of the production, diminishing the influence of the abundance fluctuations. The density-dependent variations in the growth rate should be taken into account in forecasting the Baltic sprat stock size.
