Status and fluctuation of catch of the pelagic fisheries in Nha Trang bay and adjacent waters in the southwest monsoon 2015

This paper mentions the results from the investigation of the the lift net and anchovy purse seine was conducted in the Nha Trang bay in the Southwest monsoon 2015 (April-August 2015) in order to provide the comprehensive data on status and fluctuation of fishing grounds, total catch and catch per unit effort of the pelagic fisheries in the Nha Trang bay. In 2015, there were 374 boats using the lift net and 31 boats using the anchovy purse seine fishing surrounding the Nha Trang bay. The catch of these fishing gears was relatively high with mean values of 489.55 kg/haul for the anchovy purse seine and 47.71 kg/haul for the lift net. The major fishing grounds of the two fishing gears are concentrated in the northern and south-western parts of Tre island. Comparison of the data between 2015 and 2005 shows that mean catch per haul for the anchovy purse seine was significantly declined (5.56 times; T-test, p <0.001), whereas this was significantly increased (2.29 times; T-test, p < 0.01) for the lift net in the same period.
