Diseño y ensayo de redes de arrastre de fondo orientadas al escape de juveniles

Among the fishing methods used by the Uruguayan fishing fleet bottom trawl nets occupy an important place. The aim of this paper is to study alternatives to improve selectivity to allow for a larger escape of juveniles of the target species in a particular fishery. The alternative designs, tested in the Naval and Fisheries Test Channel (CPNyP) of the School of Engineering, show their behaviour quantitatively (resistance of the tunnel and codend at preset speeds) and qualitatively (comparison of behaviour of the different designs proposed). In a parallel manner, trials were conducted at sea in the fishing area with full-scale prototypes. The use of a cover codend to determine the number of juveniles able to escape and the establishment of selectivity indices allowed setting a comparison standard among the designs proposed and the correspondence with the laboratory results.

Entre los métodos de pesca que utiliza la flota pesquera uruguaya las redes de arrastre de fondo ocupan un lugar importante. El objetivo del presente trabajo es estudiar alternativas que mejoren la selectividad para permitir un mayor nivel de escape de los juveniles de la especie objeto de una determinada pesquería. Los diseños alternativos, que se ensayaron en el Canal de Pruebas Navales y Pesqueras (CPNyP) de la Facultad de Ingeniería, muestran su comportamiento en forma cuantitativa (resistencia del túnel y copo de la red a velocidades prefijadas) y cualitativa (comparación del comportamiento de los distintos diseños propuestos). En forma paralela se realizaron pruebas de mar en la zona de pesca con prototipos a escala natural. Se utilizó un sobrecopo para determinar la cantidad de ejemplares juveniles que lograron escapar y se establecieron índices de selectividad que permitieron establecer un nivel de comparación entre los diseños propuestos y la correspondencia con los resultados de laboratorio.
