Efecto de la salinidad y la temperatura en el patrón espacio-temporal del rendimiento de Mustelus schmitti en la pesca artesanal del Partido de La Costa.
The coastal waters adjacent to the Río de la Plata river (RdP) support important artisanal fisheries from Argentina and Uruguay, which are exposed to changes in the trajectory and extension of the estuarine waters. In order to understand the relationship between the RdP dynamics and the artisanal fishery landings, Mustelus schmitti yield (ind/(net.day)) spatio-temporal variation in three different locations (Las Toninas, Mar de Ajó and Punta Médanos) of Partido de La Costa, Buenos Aires (Argentina), were studied. This study comprised four warm fishing periods (September to February) between 2008 and 2012. The yield distribution pattern of 460 fishing trips and its relation with temperature, salinity (through a-chlorophyll), distance to coast, river discharge and winds, was studied. Yield presented spatial and inter-annual differences, was maximum in the south and within each fishing period, the month with highest yield varied from September to December. No variations were found in temperature and salinity from the mean distribution established in the region during the warm season. Regression tree-like analysis showed that the main segregations of the fishing trips were associated to location (distance to coast >~2 11.750 m) and to thermal cycle (temperature >= 21,46° C). During springs (temperature < 21,46 °C), differences occurred between fishing periods and in those with minor yield, the location (distance to coast >~2 5.250 m) was also determinant. These results allowed to conclude that M. schmitti yield was regulated spatially by salinity and temporarily by temperature, facts related to the southward extension of the RdP low salinity plume and the reproductive cycle respectively. Furthermore, it was observed that the inter-annual variations in the low salinity plume extension responded mainly to RdP discharge fluctuations more than to local winds.
