The study of pearl oyster (Pinctada radiata) fishery in Bandar-e Moqam and Nakhiloo landings
This study deals with pearl oyster fishery in Bandar-e-Moqam and Bandar-e-Nakhiloo in Iran from July to August 1993. The total landings of pearl oyster were 185 tons (2.3 million units) with a total marked value of approximately 64 million Rls. Out of the 20000 examined pearl oysters 561 (2.8%) contented pearls, only 14% of which had commercial value (>3mm). Dorsoventral measurment (DVM) of the majority of the caught pearl oysters lays between 70 - 80 mm. It was concluded that there is an exponential relationship between total weight and DVM, while the relationship between the size of oysters and the size of pearls has no significance.
