Studying gonadal development and sex ratio of rock oyster (Saccostrea cucullata)

The annual pattern of gonadal development and sex ratio of the rock lobster, Saccostrea cucullata, inhabiting intertidal area, on the northeastern coast of the Persian Gulf was investigated. The oyster was studied by macroscopic examination of gonads and microscopic examination of gamete smears, Increase in .ambient temperature appeared to induce gonadal development in the oyster. The main spawning period extended from June to mid-October. The overall male: female ratio was near 1:1. An association of length (dorsoventral measurrnent) and sex observed.
