An study of the Ekman transport in the adjacient oceanic region to the suroccidental shelf of the gulf of Batabanó between 82,5º and 81,5º of west longitude and 21,5º and 19,5º of north latitude it was carried out. This is a zone of great importance of being one of the main sites of pueruli onshore to the shelf shallow waters. The monthly analysis of the transport between 1967 and 2006 establishes water onshore to the shelf, with remarkable increases related to the influence of hurricanes Gilbert (1988), Mitch (1998), Iván and Charlie (2004) and Olga (2007). The seasonal pattern showed values superior to the averages from September to November, which indicates greater oceanic water offshore, related with greater pueruli entrance. Between April and August, a decrease of the transport takes place towards the shelf, which corresponds with the offshore larvae time. In the middle of the1990´s, it could be as consequence of a greater hurricane frequency. An increase in the annual transport it was observed as an inverse correspondence with the pueruli index, which reaches its maximum in 1988, associated in appearance with the Gilbert hurricane, to be gradually diminishing and influencing in the P. argus recruitment in the fishery zones.
