The collection and use of socio-economic data for the fisheries of Lake Victoria
Socio-economics very broadly concerns the interaction between basic resource systems and the human communities which depend upon them for subsistence and commercial welfare. The term "interaction" is relevant because the very act of deriving benefits from these systems --i.e. of exploiting them, obviously affects their state --i.e. their potential for continued exploitation. Socio-economic investigations thus involve a considerable array of issues, ranging from the organisation and pursuit of productive efforts (tapping the resource) to the final distribution of benefits (using the resource.
