Mariculture in California
Mariculture in California is currently under developmentby several private concerns, universities, and by theCalifornia Department of Fish and Game. At present, mostof these efforts classify as research and development witha few in the pilot production phase.The Department of Fish and Game is presently conductingresearch in the culture of mortality resistant strains ofPacific oyster, Crassostrea virginica, the red abalone,Haliotis rufescens, and the spot prawn, Pandalus platyceros.
