Anteriormente considerado um fungo oportunista, Lasiodiplodia theobromae (Patouillard) Griffon & Maublanc (sinônimo: Botryodiplodia theobromae Pat.) (SUTTON, 1980), vem se constituindo em um sério problema para os produtores em diversos agroecossistemas (FREIRE et al., 2004).
