Avaliação do efeito materno sobre o peso aos 196 dias de idade em ovinos Santa Inês.

Resumo: O trabalho teve como objetivo investigar a importância do efeito materno na estimação dos componentes de (co)variância e parâmetros genéticos sobre o peso aos 196 dias de idade (P196) em ovinos Santa Inês. Foi utilizado modelo animal que, além do efeito genético aditivo direto, incluiu ou não os efeitos aleatórios genético aditivo materno, covariância genética entre os efeitos direto e materno, ambiente permanente materno e o efeito comum de ninhada, mais o erro aleatório associado a cada observação. Com base no BIC o modelo que melhor se ajustou à característica foi que continha os efeitos genético aditivo e comum de ninhada (modelo 4), indicando que a não inclusão do efeito de ninhada em estudos genéticos para P196 pode levar a estimativas de parâmetros genéticos e componentes de covariância errôneas. Abstract: The study had the aim to investigate the importance of maternal effect on estimation of the (co)variance and genetic parameters on the weight at 196 days of age (P196) in Santa Ines sheep. The animal model used, in addition to direct genetic effect, included or not the following random effects, maternal additive genetic, genetic covariance between direct and maternal effects, maternal permanent environmental effect and common litter effect, besides the random error associated with each observation. Based on BIC and residual variance, the model that best fit the characteristic was that containing the additive genetic and common litter effects (model 4), indicating that the non inclusion of the litter effects in genetic studies for P196 may lead to estimates of genetic parameters and covariance components erroneous.
