Soil Microbiomes Associated with Verticillium Wilt Suppressive Broccoli and Chitin Amendments are Enriched with Potential Biocontrol Agentseal amendments on prokaryote soil microbiomes

Verticillium wilt is a serious fungal disease that affects many different agricultural crops, including lettuce and strawberry in California. Addition of broccoli residue and crabmeal to soil significantly reduces the severity of Verticillium wilt, but the mechanism is unknown. Since disease suppression may be mediated by alteration of the microbial community, we performed a greenhouse experiment and characterized the bacterial communities of soil treated with different levels of broccoli and crabmeal.
