Paenibacillus polymyxa strain:NRRL B-30509 Genome sequencing and assembly
Paenibacillus polymyxa NRRL B-30509 was found to show antimicrobial activity against both Gram-positive bacteria and Gram-negative bacteria (notably Campylobacter jejuni). This strain was shown to produce a novel lantibiotic (paenicidin A) as well as the non-ribosomal peptides polymyxin E and tridecaptin A. Within the genome, the biosynthetic machinery responsible for the production of these antimicrobial peptides was discovered, in addition to several other non-ribosomal peptide synthetases. This strain may have potential use for limiting the presence of C. jejuni in poultry food products.
