NIRS Database on fresh Matooke for Dry Matter & Texture at NaCRRI & IITA, Uganda

The objective of this database was the determination of the influence of Dry Matter (DM) and rapid visco analyser (RVA) parameters on the acceptability of matooke and could explain relevant traits such as tokeness in banana. The fresh matooke for tokeness database was created out of the RTB clones established at NACCRI (Uganda). The samples constituting this database were harvested in 2021 where 53 genotypes were considered. The database is powered by the standard operating procedure on spectra measurement of fresh matooke using the ASD Quality Spec equipment. Given logistical and technical constraints, the database consists of 45 genotypes RTB panel genotypes. For each genotype one to three bunches were used and each Each genotype is replicated 3 times (3 bunches are evaluated for each genotype). Four fingers are scanned per bunch for NIRS on fresh sample. Each of these fingers is cut in half. One half of the same 4 fingers are boiled and mashed, then scanned twice for NIRS on mashed sample. The other half is peeled, chopped and used for DM. The dried sample (after DM) is then ground into powder/flour, from which we obtain spectra and RVA data. 303 NIRS spectra were acquired.
