Potassium and magnesium fertilizer rationing on coconut palms.
In a trial carried out on PB 121 hybrid coconut palms on tertiary sands in the Cote d'Ivoire, with a Pueraria cover crop and restoration of husks to the soil, the palms withstood considerable temporary reductions in conventional fertilizer application rates. Leaf contents for mineral nutrients did not reveal any significant deficiencies and yields only dropped by 8% six years after fertilizer application was totally suspended. Husks returned 155200 kg potassium chloride per ha per year to the soiland 2533 kg of kieserite.
