Importancia del cacao en la producción, ingreso y uso de recursos en fincas de la región Brunca de Costa Rica

The role of cocoa in the production mix, income generation and resources use of 124 cocoa producing farms of the Brunca region of Costa Rica was studied. Cocoa is the main economic activity for most surveyed farms even though land is allocated mostly to livestock. Most of the farming activities during the year are related to the cocoa production which provides job for the entire family. Cocoa production is also the farm activity which receives most of the nontraditional inputs used by farmers and also where they tend to identify the marger number of production problems.
