Production and productivity of coffee in Kerala - a perspective

Following an introduction to the production of coffee in Kerala, India, reasons for current low production and productivity are detailed. Particular reference is made to: small size of farm, indiscriminate intercropping, poor soil quality, periodical hard pruning, inappropriate soil cultivation methods, inadequate rainfall, and pests and diseases. Ways in which these problems could be overcome are considered.
