Efecto de la inoculación de hongos micorrizogenos (HMA) sobre la producción de posturas de cafetos en tres tipos de suelos del macizo montañoso Guamuhaya

Experiments were conducted for three seasons (1994-97), with the objective of determining the performance of 15 AMF strains on coffee seedling development in three of the main types of coffee-growing soils from Guamuhaya mountain lands (Cuba): lixiviated Red Ferralitic, lixiviated Red Fersialitic and Gleyed Brown soils. Stem height, stem diameter, leaf pair number, leaf area, and plant shoot, root and total dry weights were evaluated seven months after sowing, together with colonization percentage of AMF. Data were processed according to principal component and cluster analysis; the former showed a single component formation, accounting for about 85 percent of the original variation recorded in every soil studied, whereas cluster analysis grouped strains according to their behaviour in different soils, proving that their general performance is not affected by years. Leaf area efficiency indexes of AMF strains generally increased as soil fertility decreased. The highest values (72.20, 68.15 and 67.15 percent) wereachieved by Glomus manihotis, Glomus intraradices and Acaulospora scrobiculata on the lixiviated Red Ferralitic soil, which was among the least fertile soils studied. On lixiviated Red Fersialitic soils, Glomus fasciculatum and two ecotypes of Glomus mosseae had notable values ranging between 65.10 and 66.80 percent, whereas in the Gleyed Brown soil the best strains were Glomus intraradices, another ecotype of Glomus mosseae (T5) and Glomus fasciculatum, with effective index values of 52.20 to 54.86 percent.
