On-farm production of Trichoderma harzianum using organic matter
The population of Trichoderma harzianum (P26) increased up to 3 days in organic media such as neem cake, coir pith, farmyard manure, and decomposed coffee pulp. The population increased irrespective of the initial inoculum level. Similar trends wererecorded for field experiments (Kerala, India). The increase in the total population density of T. harzianum in the media suggests that competition by native fungi in non-sterile carrier media was not a limiting factor in colonization of the media by theantagonist. Soil amended with organic materials (neem cake, coir compost, farmyard manure, and Gliricidia leaves) showed better antagonist growth and survival than soil alone. The carrier materials (neem cake, coir pith, farmyard manure, and decomposed coffee pulp), which served as nutrient additives to the crop, enhanced inoculum production.
