Nueva variedad de café de porte alto resistente a la roya del cafeto :

For 25 years, a selection in various generations was made by gathering a group of progenies from breedings between Timor Hybrid and varieties Típica and Borbón, which exhibit excellent agronomic and quality characteristics. They are outstanding thanks to their vegetative vigor and their dimensions (high demeanor) and they can be planted at densities no higher than 3,000 plants per hectare. Regarding grain feature, the selection performed in previous generations produced big grains, higher than 80 percent of supreme coffee. Most of the advanced generation progenies were statically alike with respect to the production of the best control variety with chemical control, and several of them were statistically superior. The cup quality is indistinguishable from that obtained with the control varieties, considered among the ones with highest acceptance in Coffea arabica. The quality was confirmed in samples from farmer's fields. Their behavior in the evaluated sites can give these materials and extra value as "specially coffees". The seed mixture of the chosen progenies will guarantee a wide genetic diversity regarding those factors responsible for coffee leaf rust resistance. This improvement strategy is successfully used in Colombia to attempt an durable resistance against this disease. The best progenies were propagated to provide coffee growers a compound kind variety called "TABI", which means "good" in Guambiano dialect.
