Effect of growth regulators on fruit setting of coffee (Coffea arabica L.) cv. S. 795
An experiment was conducted at Central Coffee Research Institute, Coffee Research Station during 1990-91 coffee production year to study the effect of growth regulators on fruit setting of arabica coffee cv. S. 795 and to examine the possibility of minimising the occurrence of abnormal flowers and bean disorder. Ergostim was applied at 0.0125, 0.025 and 0.0375 percent and Trianol CF at 0.021, 0.02 and 0.073 percent concentrations as pre-blossom, two days after receipt of shower and post-blossom sprays. Lower concentration of Ergostim and Trianol CF reduced floral atrophy, improved vegetative growth and increased fruit set irrespective of time of applications. However, Trianol CF at 0.075 percent imposed during pre-blossom spray caused significantly higher fruit set (78.11 percent) compared to control (61.63 percent). The occurrence of bean disorder reduced with Ergostim at 0.0125 and 0.025 percent, Trianol CF at 0.025 and 0.075 percent to 1.141, 1.143, 1.103 and 1.051 respectively from 1.637 in control.
