In vitro propagation of the disease resistant Coffea arabica L. cultivar Ruiru 11
The experiment was started with an aim of finding out the possibility of using tissue culture as a tool for propagating the improved cultivar obtained in the breeding programme. Mature leaf explants of Coffea arabica L. cultivar Ruiru 11 were cultured in a Murashige and Skoog (MS) (1962) nutrient medium with varying concentration of auxins and cytokinins for callus proliferation. Embryogenesis and plantlet development was achieved on a media containing same formulation with reduction in the MS organic salts and 2,4D replaced with 0.8 mg IAA. These preliminary results indicate that tissue culture is a promising tool for propagating Coffea arabica L
