Field performance of diuron 80 Flo., paraquat 25 SL and glyphosphate 120 g/l herbicides on weed cntrol in coffee

Three herbicide formulations were evaluated on weed control in Kenyan coffee between 1987 and 1990. These were paraquat 25 per cent SL (Novaquat), Diuron 80 per cent Flo (Faycomex) and Glyphosate 120g/l (mon 14471). Paraquat (25 SL) at 2.01/ha controlled weeds effectively as a broadspectrum contact herbicide. Its performance was similar to that of paraquat 20 ML. Parthenium hystelophorus L. was not effectively controlled by paraquat 25 SL. Bidens pilosa L. was effectively controlled by paraquat 25 SL only where paraquat 20 ML had not been over used. Glyphosate, 120 g/l at 3 - 41/ha performed well as a broad-spectrum systemic herbicide especially on annual weeds. Diuron 80 per cent Flo had good weed kill at 3.01/ha as a soil acting herbicide on annual broad leaved and grass weeds. None of the evaluated herbicides had a significant effect on soil pH.
