Vesicular arbuscular mycorrhiza in coffee

Studies were initiated to know the extent of Vesicular Arbuscular Mycorrhiza (VAM) present in coffee roots and also the type present. Per cent VAM infection was calculated in 3 zones. In Zone I (Chikmagalur) the per cent VAM infection in arabica ranged between 28 and 38 and while in robusta it was between 14 and 38. In Zone II (Kodagu) it ranged between 32 and 64 per cent, in arabica and while in robusta was 35-68 per cent. In Zone III (Wayanad) it ranged between 21 and 30 per cent in arabica and 10 and 34 in robusta. Glomus macrocarpum and Sclerocystis rubiformis spores were isolated from Zones I and II and Gigaspora sp. comprising possibly of Gigaspora gigantea and G. heterogama were isolated from Zone III
