Incidencia de la enfermedad quema terminal de la bandola en el café asociado con otros cultivos

A study was undertaken in the Agua Buena district, Coto Brus Canton in Costa Rica, to determine the percentage incidence of the disease "terminal mandolin burn" in coffee. The disease is thought to be caused by a complex of fungi. Different systems of coffee production were evaluated; coffee in association with maize, plantain and taro, as well as comparisons with monocultures of coffee in each system. Furthermore a questionaire was administered to farmers to evaluate their opinion regarding these systems of production. In the coffee-maize system damage from the disease was encountered significatively more often than in monoculture or in other systems of associated plantings. The majority of the farmers agreed that the cause of the disease is the pollen from maize plants, which is why the disease is present only during the tasseling stage of the maize
