Maximising coffee yield through cauvery (Catimor) selection :
This paper, presented at the UPASI-KPA conference in 1988, reports on plant research carried out by the Central Coffee Research Institute. Research has focused on establishing a large gene bank of semi-dwarfs, bred with a view to increasing productivity and incorporating maximum vertical resistance to Hemileia vastatrix. Zonal trials in 1985 revealed that the genotype "Cauvery" was capable of high yields (1018-6886 kg/ha). A project replacement planting programme aims at 55.000 hectares under this genotype by the year 2000. Projected figures 1988-2000 for productivity, area under cultivation, yield increase, and production are shown in tables in the Annexures. (ICO. Library Monthly Entries no.110-111:17-18.
