Breeding was continued with the object of evolving more efficient types with resistance to leaf rust (H. vastatrix) and good cup quality. The main items of work in the division were study of morphological characters with special reference to yield components, cytogenetical studies of hybrids, screening for resistance to various races of rust, trial of promising cultures in different zones and recording of yield in various cultures in the gene bank and breeding plots
