Effects of six insect growth regulators on the egg and larval stages of the coffee leafminer; Leucoptera meyricki Ghasq. (Lepidoptera: Lyoneetiidae)

Treatment of fields infested with larvae of Leucoptera meyricki Ghesq, with six antimoultant formulations at three rates led to dominant first, second and fourth instars and a suppressed incidence of the third instar in relation to the rate of the antimoultants applied. The antimoultants deterred oviposition in the field significantly with active ingredients of Diflubenzuron in WP and F1 formulations and Teflubenzuron EC minimising mining activity. Efficacy was evident from the physical health of entire coffee canopies, the suppressed survival of the larvae and through production of larvae of light weights. Based on the data gathered, Dimilin Fl and WP and XRD 473 at 500 ml, 400 g and 1000 ml per ha can be applied effectively against the larval stage of leafminers in Kenya
