Evaluation of some morphological characters: yield, seed size ratio, outturn and liquor quality in Congensis x Robusta Hybrids

The relationship of some vegetative characters viz. stem girth, tree radius, primary girth, internodal lenght and assessment of crop yield, per cent seed grade, outturn and beverage quality was studied in different hybrid progenies of Coffea congensis and C. robusta (SLN. 4R). A significant positive correlation between tree girth and radius in all the progenies except F2 between primary girth and stem girth in two advanced progenies derived from backcross to robusta was found. Crop yield in S.2569 was higher than robusta parent. Seed grade ratio, outturn and cup quality features were normal. Hybridization of high yielding medium size trees and their subsequent advancement by clonal methods is suggested to obtain improved strain
